Jesus was born in Bethlehem, but he was raised in a town called Nazareth, and so he was known as “Jesus the Nazarene.” In calling ourselves the Church of the Nazarene, we are choosing to identify with the earthly life of Jesus, which he lived among the poor, outcast, and disadvantaged. Here was where he ministered, and here was where the Church of the Nazarene got its start.
